Portrait in Clay: July 12-14

This seminar will focus on lectures on anatomy, emphasizing bone structure and discussions on expression and ethnic differences.  Three days of intensive work will be spent on sculpting a head in water-based clay while learning techniques to create successful portraits. Students will complete numerous exercises with step-by-step instruction, in addition to working from live models. The technique of preparation for firing water-based clay will be discussed, though firing services will not be provided during the workshop. All materials will be made available for use during the class. Students are also welcome to use any of their own tools. The seminar is from 9-4:30 each day with an hour and a half break for lunch (students are welcome to work during the break if they wish).
